History of I.C.F.
1980s
Birth of Canicross (1980s)
1982 – France: Gilles Pernoud is credited as one of the first to combine running with dogs. 1987 – Belgium: Véronique Bourdon develops a similar practice independently in Belgium. While the sport has roots in sled dog racing (mushing), Canicross was adapted for areas and seasons without snow.
1990
Emergence of Bike-Joëring
1990 – Czech Republic: The sport emerged "by necessity" due to a lack of snow, allowing mushers to train their dogs in dry seasons.
2004
Founding of the ECF
2004 – Moutier, Switzerland: The ECF is officially established as a non-profit organization. The three founding countries were: Switzerland (Willy Charmillot, Pablo Cassina) France (Jean-Luc Payre, Jacques Adam) Belgium (Jean-Pierre Talbot, Jean-Luc Bertinchamps) Willy Charmillot served as the first President.
